Breathable Membrane Fabric

Fabric Definition:
Breathable membrane fabric consists of a microporous or hydrophilic layer laminated to a textile, allowing moisture vapor to escape while blocking liquid water, providing comfort and weather protection for active outdoor wear.
Composition:
ePTFE (expanded PTFE), PU (polyurethane), TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), Polyester-based hydrophilic membranes, blends with elastane
Texture:
Thin, flexible, slightly crinkly, smooth or textured, can be transparent or opaque, high-tech feel, works with various face fabrics
Stretch Level:
Low to Moderate (membrane has minimal stretch; elastane in face adds stretch)
Fabric Construction:
Laminated film or membrane applied to woven or knitted face fabrics (2L, 2.5L, 3L constructions)
GSM Range:
20-100 GSM (membrane only); total fabric laminate 150-400 GSM
Breathability:
High (excellent breathability, moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) varies)
Moisture Management:
Very Low (membrane blocks liquid water; allows vapor transmission)
Durability:
High (membrane is durable, resistant to flex cracking; face fabric provides abrasion resistance)
Thermal Properties:
Moderate; membrane is windproof; adds insulation when laminated, but primarily for weather protection
