Nubuck

Fabric Definition:
Nubuck is a premium, full-top-grain leather that has been lightly buffed or napped on the grain side, resulting in an exceptionally soft, velvety surface with a luxurious hand, remarkable durability, and a sophisticated, matte finish.
Composition:
100% Leather (Top-Grain Cowhide or Calfskin) – the outermost, strongest layer of the hide, lightly buffed for a fine nap
Texture:
Incredibly soft, velvety, smooth, with a fine, dense nap and a rich, warm hand; has a luxurious, matte finish that is softer than full-grain leather but more durable than suede
Stretch Level:
Low (Inherently has some stretch; conforms to the shape over time)
Fabric Construction:
Leather – tanned, lightly sanded/buffed on the grain side to create a fine, velvety nap; available in aniline and semi-aniline finishes
GSM Range:
200-600 GSM (Light for apparel, medium for accessories, heavy for upholstery and footwear)
Breathability:
Excellent – Highly breathable, much more breathable than coated leathers or synthetics
Moisture Management:
Good – Absorbs moisture, but the napped surface can absorb oils and liquids; protective treatments enhance resistance
Durability:
Outstanding – Very durable and long-lasting; stronger and more abrasion-resistant than split suede; ages beautifully with proper care
Thermal Properties:
Good – Provides excellent insulation; the nap traps air, keeping feet warm (ideal for footwear) and interiors comfortable
Key Usage Areas:
High-end Footwear (Dress Shoes, Boots), Luxury Accessories (Bags, Wallets, Belts), Premium Apparel (Jackets, Coats), Automotive Interiors, Luxury Upholstery, Bookbinding
Automotive interiors (seats, dashboard, steering wheels), aviation seating, luxury yacht upholstery, high-end office furniture
