Zylon

Fabric Definition:
Zylon is an ultra-high-performance fiber made from poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO), with exceptional tensile strength and modulus, heat resistance, and cut resistance, used in ballistic protection, aerospace, and advanced composites.
Composition:
100% PBO (Zylon), Zylon/Kevlar, Zylon/Nylon, Zylon/Carbon, Zylon/Glass composites, with coatings
Texture:
Smooth, metallic or luster, stiff, high tenacity, heat-resistant feel, fine fiber, matte to slight sheen
Stretch Level:
None (no stretch, rigid in composites)
Fabric Construction:
Woven (Plain, Twill, Satin), Braided, Unidirectional, Laminated
GSM Range:
100-500 GSM (light to heavy; 200-400 GSM for ballistic)
Breathability:
Low (dense, impermeable; woven form limited breathability)
Moisture Management:
Very Low (hydrophobic, low moisture absorption)
Durability:
Very High (exceptional tensile strength, high modulus, cut-resistant, abrasion-resistant, excellent fatigue resistance)
Thermal Properties:
Very High (excellent thermal stability, decomposes above 650°C, flame-retardant)
Key Usage Areas:
Ballistic vests, Body armor, Helmets, Firefighter protective gear, Aerospace composites, Motorsports, Industrial cut-resistant gloves, High-performance ropes
Ballistic protection, aerospace, firefighting, motorsports, oil & gas, marine, telecommunications, military, high-performance textiles
